Announcements and Great News! Ploning is Gearing for Traipsing the Theaters of Paris!

On the 17th of May, 2008, Executive Producer Guia Gonzales sent me a text message giving an update regarding the showing of Ploning. Being wrapped up in personal matters, I was able to get to posting this only today:

Good morning Ploning Friends! Please continue to spread the word: This weekend, we are still in

SM Megamall, SM Fairview, and SM Bacoor.
Starting May 21, 2008, we will be at:
    • Gateway
    • Metropolis
    • Festival Mall

So, if you wanted to catch Ploning at either Gateway, Metropolis or the Festival Mall, please do so, because Ploning will be there on the 21st of May!

On the other hand, Executive Producer Jourdan Sebastian has better news:

It's confirmed! "Ploning" is going to Paris Cinema this July. Along with other Filipino filmmakers and Filipino film classics, Ploning was chosen as one of the Filipino films to represent the Philippines in this prestigious European Film Market that gathers Europe's top producers and distributors. With the successful representation of Filipinos in Cannes this year with 3 Filipino films participating (2 of which are in competition Raya Martin's NOW SHOWING and Brilliantes Mendoza's SERBIS, one short-film in exhibition Joaquin Valdez' BULONG... mabuhay kayo mga kapatid!!!)... comes another landmark achievement for Filipino Filmmakers. The spotlight is on us right now as PARIS CINEMA features Philippines and its filmmakers as the highlight country they chose this year.

I was able to meet 2 of the organizers of PARIS CINEMA (Jeremy and Aude) when they visited the country two months ago and I asked them why they chose to feature Philippines this year. Both agreed that Filipino filmmakers are one of the most prolific, creative and diverse filmmakers in the world today. Unlike other countries that churn up the same run of the mill films year in and year out... Philippines has been so "off-field" in what they have been producing... which for them Europeans make very interesting collaborators.

We just got to talk to the very supportive Film Development Council of the Philippines and we just found out that there are 2 films being considered by the programmers to be the "opening film" for the festival... our film "Ploning" and Star Cinema's "Care-Giver". Hay, mukhang palagi nalang namin katapat ang napakagaling na Star Cinema! Baka naman dahil magaling rin kami!!! yahoo yahoo!!!

Anyway the wind blows, they choose PLONING or Star Cinema's, this event is already a winner for all of us!!! Us being featured in PARIS CINEMA is pivotal development for our industry... not only are we now getting international awards... which Mr Lino Brocka and Raymond Red has trailblazed for us Filipinos... but we are also being picked up in International Film Markets!!! Producers of the world now want to collaborate and make films with us from our own backyard. I was just privvy to the fact that Fortissimo, one of the biggest distribution companies in Europe just set-up a hush hush meeting with some of our filmmakers for their international distribution campaign. Folks from Bollywood were just in the country studying their film investment possibilities here. I myself, am getting calls from Hollywood wanting to pursue co-producing films with Filipino filmmakers.

That's why with all these developments, I don't have time trying to pull other filmmakers down... this is the best time na dapat nagtutulungan ang mga Filipino filmmakers to get more of our films out there... and we have so much to give mga kapatid... because we just have so much stories to tell and so much creativity to unleash!!!

By the way, those that have not watched "PLONING" yet we have a limited run in GATEWAY MALL, FESTIVAL MALL and METROPOLIS starting MAY 21, WEDNESDAY! Don't miss this film event that critics are hailing as a "Modern Filipino Masterpiece!"

Ploning is going to Europe, friends! Let's support the Philippine movie industry! Tell your friends abroad! :)

Ploning: Updates and Activity Schedules

Before I go back to analyzing Ploning the Movie in teasing chunks, I’d like to give you an update of what’s happening in Ploning’s world.

First up, if you want to get a souvenir of Ploning the Movie, Juday’s flame Ryan Agoncillo created a Coffee Table book, the Ploning the Making book. It is on a Limited Edition basis, at Php 1,900.00. It features the amazing sights of Cuyo, the breathtaking sunsets. It’s a great piece to show your friends from abroad, to show that our country has patches of paradise, after all. :)

Ryan’s coffee table book was launched yesterday, May 4, 2008, at the M Cafe at the Ayala Museum. There was also a Celebrity Gala at the Ayala Cinemas. Today, the 5th of May, 2008, there is another Celebrity Screening, this time, at Robinson’s Galleria Cinema 4.

On the 7th of May, 2008, witness the Philippine Gala Premiere of Ploning, with English subtitles this time, at the Meralco Theater. It will be presented by Gov. Joel T. Reyes, governor of the Province of Palawan, along with Panoramanila Pictures Co. It’s going to be a glitzy Invitation-Only event for the who’s who of the Philippines.

Then starting April 30 to May 6, 2008, Ploning unveils her, well, veil, but screening is exclusive to SM Cinemas. Then from May 7 onwards, Ploning enjoys exposure through the other cinemas in the country. To watch the English-subtitled versions, Panoramanila Pictures Co. is pleased to unveil this version for national consumption on the 14th of May, 2008.

Also, if you have a good mind to get your butt off to Palawan, do watch Ploning the Movie at an SM Cinema near you, and join the Trip to Palawan promo of SM Cinemas!
